Our Properties in Somerset
The county of Somerset is situated in South West England. It is a county associated with the Arthurian legend - in particular the legend of the Holy Grail. It is also a largely rural county and you can still find many traditional crafts in evidence such as cheese making, basketry and the production of strong apple cider! The county town is Taunton and Somerset also has two cities; Wells, England's smallest cathedral city and Bath with its Georgian splendour and world famous Roman baths. Other major towns include Frome, Yeovil, Bridgwater and the popular seaside resorts of Minehead & Weston-super-Mare.
It is a county of contrasts with flat expanses such as the Somerset Levels interspersed with valleys and gorges such as the Chew Valley and Cheddar Gorge respectively, ranges of picturesque hills such as the Mendips and the Quantocks, and the vast moorlands of Exmoor.
Places to visit include the caves at Wookey Hole, Glastonbury with its spectacular abbey ruins and mystical associations and the stately splendour of the Tyntesfield estate or Barrington Court. Take a scenic ride along the West Somerset Railway or a trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, and observe its vast range of aircraft on display.
